Leadership

  • Organelle Network Research Center (ONRC) was established on June 1st, 2017 as the Science Research Center (SRC) project, which is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of the Ministry of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea. Our major mission is to advance scientific discovery as well as to develop the treatment options for various human diseases. To this end, ONRC brings together more than 100 scientists around the country, supports novel research, and implements collaborative academic endeavor.

ONRC is directed by Prof. Joo-Yeon Yoo, PhD in the Department of Life Sciences at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). She is the world renown scientist in the field of immunology and infections diseases, and leads the ONRC program as one of the leading principal investigators of the SRC project funded by Korean government.

In ONRC, our scientists aim to understand how intracellular organelles interact, providing the basic principles of biological regulation through functional networks of organelles, in particular, between mitochondria and other organelles. ONRC has 3 project leaders, 8 co-investigators, and over 80 researchers including postdocs and graduate students.

Scientific research in the ONRC is advised by two Scientific Advisory Committees, the external and internal committees, which provide overall guidance to the ONRC. These committees are composed of leading scientists from many academic research institutes around the country in the areas of interest to ONRC.
